In addition to the demographics such as age, sex and residency; socio-economic data, illness the patient was suffering from, who the guardian or caregiver was, travelling history of both the care giver and the patient in the past 7 days prior to interview, whether they came into contact with animals, information on where they had been 24 hours prior to the interview date were collected. Both the patient and the caregiver were asked to keep a dairy and document the contacts they have made since they visited the clinic. Contact information that was collected included; initials of the contact, sex, age, meeting place, whether the meeting was in or out door, whether touching was involved and how frequent the patient or caregiver came into contact with the contact.
