SES Combined socio-economic data

Data on socio-economic status have been gathered in various studies since the beginning of the CRS. The do-file combined_ses_data combines and harmonises these data, and creates several summary 'score' variables.

As some of the surveys included in these datasets have been running for many years and the questionnaires have changed over time the excel file SES_data_available.xlsx (which is created by the same do-file) gives a year by year indication of data availability for each variable for both dataset. A further complication is that, while data predominantly come from the CRS population some data come from studies carried out in the wider Karonga district. The overall amount of data available plus the coverage in the CRS is indicated in the following way:

numidentincrs / numcrshseincrs at the top of each sheet shows the number of people / households in the CRS in each year

var_crs : The number of crs members / households with data available for that variable at least once that year
var_crspc : An estimate of the percent of the crs members (or households) with data available that year (using numidentincrs / numcrshseincrs as denominator). Note that survey rounds don't usually run
from January to December and may not attempt to reach all household/members in one year so figures should be interpreted with caution!
var_n : The total number of records with that variable filled in that year (including non-crs members/households and repeated interviews)

var_ave : The mean of the variable for that year in the entire dataset; this is only included for score variables
