- Can an advanced cookstove intervention that substantially reduces biomass smoke exposure relative to an open fire prevent pneumonia in children under 5 years old in Malawi?
- How affordable and cost effective is the intervention from household, healthcare system and societal perspectives?
- What can be learned from trial participants and non-participants about adoption of the intervention that could inform effective implementation of the trial findings in the future?
Coverage
CAPS was a cluster-randomized controlled trial with two arms of equal size comparing the effects of a cleaner-burning biomass-fueled cookstove intervention to the continued use of traditional open fire cooking on pneumonia incidence (primary outcome previously reported) and CO exposures (secondary outcomes) in children under 5 years of age living in rural Malawi over a 2-year period.
